Old Root, Vol. 1: Kava in Hawai‘i

The story of Hawai‘i can't be told without kava — known to Hawaiians as ‘awa — and the story of kava can’t be told without Hawai‘i.

To better share the story of Hawai‘i and its thirteen unique cultivars of ‘awa, the Nothing Special Presents team created OLD ROOT, Vol. 1, a kava table book for the kava-curious and kava enthusiast alike.

OLD ROOT, Vol. 1 is a culmination of three weeks documenting stories told by ‘awa cultural practitioners, growers, experts, and aficionados on the islands of Hawai‘i, O‘ahu, and Moloka‘i.
